Guild Wars is so hard, how 2 make money????
I've had like 10+ million gold, more if I was patient and good at selling (3 hod axes, etc...) or bought more HoD Axes to begin with.
I wish they didn't nerf the HoD Axe, that was like the best thing ever.

Who cares who is rich? Ask yourself how many people in this game currently have less than 20k gold in their storage...
I always consider 150-300k as being the average player's current storage gold at this time... at least one who has played longer than a year.
Nonetheless, those stacks of Ectoplasm and Armbraces will have nothing to do with GW2 unless ANet decided to allow stacks of "special items" to be accepted in the Hall of Monuments.

It takes a bit of luck to get rich, and then some heartlessness + luck to get very rich. Some people are just those type of people who have gotten several good drops at the right time and greatly profited from it. From there they could invest more money into trading and make good deals. Mind, some of the best deals sometimes come at the expense of the less-experienced players, and so you knowingly take from someone unknowing.
The duping scandal also allowed for a great increase in the number of ectos/armbraces something is worth. With so many stacks of ectos and armbraces added to the market, the value of them fell, but the actual price of the some minis did not, so it made them look more expensive. The ecto/armbrace reserve got bigger, and so did the "price" for minis.
People who had rare items before the scandal have greatly benfited from it. If you had a Panda before the scandal and bought it for 1500e, you could then resell it for 4000e. You didn't have to be a duper to get rich, just be in the right place at the right time.

i,in comparison to many, is probably very very poor,i got one set of elite armor, not obsidion, a req 11 voltaic and about 25k in the bank, yet i am not undeterred. imho the only thing "nice" items do is jus that look nice. there is absoulutely no dif b/w a req 9 perfect longsword and a req 9 crystalline perfect besides the rarity. Most of thses rich ppl were ppl taht plaid since the beggining when there were deent 55s unconditional weps 3rd year minis and a long time to HA to get some good rare weps. the only thing you can do is to farm when you can and not focus on the rarity
p.s- sorry for long post

4. It is NOT easy to cash in GW. This is rather strange comming from someone as "experienced" as yourself in power-trading. Power-Trading (Which is the only alternative besides duping/botting/...) relies on the fact there is few people controlling trades for the masses. It's like Walmart and these other Hyper-Stores. Most of there products arn't theirs, but they can simple buy them in masses (relativly cheap), and sell them in smaller ammounts to the "little" people...
The more people you have power-trading, the lesser profit they will individually make, and the larger the factor of "Luck" (Right place, right time) will get.

Running back in the day netted some of the LBS runners 20million+. LBS himself was worth 50million+ and this was wayyyyy back in 2005, well before duping. So, yes it is easy to make cash. The LBS runners spent a little, and earned a lot. It's a shame very few of them are left. Any of the decent ones reading this will back up this paragraph.
Power trading is hardly rocket science. It only takes 100k and some patience, and if you're good/lucky, that 100k can be turned into a million in under a week. Easy money, just not for people not willing to put the time in. Once you've established yourself a name within the trading community, tarding tales little to no time. People will come to you with offers or items.
Now back to trading. A little thinking on my part netted me many millions. Bought 2 panda at release for 900e each. I resold them when the big boom hit for 1500e+250 armbraces each. Now granted they were duped braces no doubt, but Anet seen fit no to remove duped braces, so the trade was legit, if a little shady.
So I turned what was a fair amount of cash into wealth beyond 99% of the current player base. Others have done the same. Easy money, no farming required. And I've only played 1.7k hours over 35months (take away some extensive afk, and 4-6months no playing), so no, I'm no lifeless wonder.
Point proven? Or do I need to write more? Prefer not to. People moan I'm boasting my e-peen lol anyone who knows me ingame knows different.
Can you really be that rich? Simple answer is yes. Can 99% of the player base be that rich? hell no. Even so, everyone should have at least 100k. It's quite amusing reading posts from people who've never had more then 10-20k.
Ok. I'm done.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the average guild wars player had 20k in their bank. Whether that is true or not, it sounds more then enough. Equipping a new character all the way to the max costs about 20k, anything more is just vanity.
I personally have about 1400 ectos though, mostly because I just don't buy much and I have gotten lucky on a number of good trades. You don't have to spend 10 hours a day in game to keep an eye out for great trades for 5 mins in spamadon every time you log in.
I know friends who have almost no money though, and if they have an actual need for items (instead of just wanting 15k vanity armor) I help them out.

damn, and I thought I was lucky. Anet should have deleted those .
You can't really attribute that sell to 'a little thinking', unless you somehow were banking on the fact that someone would find a way to dupe armbraces

But wasn't that quote made in 2005/2006? Pretty sure anybody playing since then has had plenty of time to make money.

But what's the point? I really don't get the whole 'power trading thing'. I mean...for what purpose do you need these stacks and stacks of money?
You can't sell it on e-bay, or at least shouldn't be. So, you make money, do some trades and end up with even more money, rinse and repeat...for what exactly? Especially if you're not actually playing because of all the trading (which I've seen from power traders who seem to live in Kamadan 1), and not planning to use the money to get fancy weapons to impress others with when playing normally or in PvP. Or for titles of course, which makes some sense but doesn't account for all that money just sitting in somebody's bag.
Yeah, so the whole thing confuses me. All that money and ecto...for what? Unless of course all these uber-rich people are planning to create an army and arm them all with Crystalline swords, and tog them out in FoW before taking over the...err, Guild Wars
Meh, each to their own. I've only been farming seriously for the past few months cos I want FoW armor, but beyond that I have no need for uber-stacks of pixels.

Malice loved to buy low, and sell high.
And his generosity to those in the game wanting 'that' armor, or 'that' weapon...was alliance renowned.
To many players, the challenge of trading is as fun as killing chit.

To the OP
I've been playing for 19 months now and let me tell you something ... I'm super rich. I don't farm, I don't do runs, I didn't dupe or ebayed, I didn't have the advantage of being a 3 year veteran, I don't know a dev, I didn't have the opportunity to buy ectos during the accidental price reset nor do I PvP.
My secret ... power trading. There are tons of people selling stuff pretty cheaply out there (they need money quick, they dont know the prices, theyre quitting, they dont have room, etc.) and there are tons of people looking to overpay for those items (want items quick, dont want to spam, want items to use for trade, etc.).
All you have to do is find those people and know your prices. You also need to have a bit of charisma (in this case, silver tongue) to convince people to pay the amount youre asking (without lying of course).
Reading the various message boards and knowing whats the next hot thing is, isnt bad for business either (right now im sitting on 37 armbraces and 33 tormented weapons ... anticipating when these weapons get added to the HOM).
Kutu
PS: Of course i'll never reveal how much I'm worth ... but hopefully, you get the picture above. :P

OP:
You say you've played around 30 months, I have too(around). But how much time per day do you actually spend on GW? I spend on average less than 1 hour each day playing, not counting summer vacations. So probably if you want stuff like 4k ectos you're gonna have to turn GW into real life

What purpose do you have playing the game? Some people enjoy the storyline, others like to PvP, and some just like having lots of money. If someone enjoys playing the game by running around as a naked male warrior in Lion's Arch, why should he care what the point is?
